No Boundaries – 1010

Name Artwork: No Boundaries
Artist: 1010

Year: 2015

1010 is an artist originally from Poland and based in Hamburg. Internationally, he is best known for his enigmatic, portal-like street art illusions on walls. His technique creates a certain depth on an ordinary wall by painting concentric layers of colour.

The clear layers of concrete lead to darkness and they are made so realistically that it is hard to believe they have no depth.

The process of creating this kind of artwork is very specific. First, 1010 chooses a pattern that mirrors the building it will be painted on, so that the mural fits perfectly on the wall and looks as if it came naturally over time. 1010 works from the dark centre of his image, layer by layer, to the lightest hues at the edges of his work, creating breathtaking shapes that dig their way into the sides of buildings, creating a mural that gleefully plays with time and space.

This work has since been discontinued and replaced by 3TTMAN’s Cementpiece.
