De van origine Poolse Magdalena Karol, is neergestreken in Ierland, waar ze in 2016 haar kunstenaarspad vond. In Polen werkte ze als interieurontwerper en in de architectuursector. In Ierland waar ze in Waterford leeft, studeerde ze kunst aan het Waterford Institute of Technology.
Daar werkte ze vooral op canvas, maar het werken op grote muraloppervlakken gaf haar voor het eerst de gelegenheid haar interesses te combineren. Zij ziet kunst als een manier van communiceren met de omgeving, een visuele vorm van interactie, die haar al doende de mogelijkheid biedt contact te leggen met de mensen die wonen in de omgeving van het kunstwerk.
Het maken van murals heeft ook haar werkwijze op canvas veranderd: “Door het gebruik van spraycans leer je op een andere manier schaduwen te maken en dat pas ik nu ook toe op canvas en papier.”
Het gebouw is inmiddels gesloopt.
Originally from Poland, Magdalena Karol, settled in Ireland, where she found her artistic path in 2016. In Poland, she worked as an interior designer and in the architectural sector. In Ireland where she lives in Waterford, she studied art at the Waterford Institute of Technology.
There she worked mainly on canvas, but working on large mural surfaces gave her the opportunity to combine her interests for the first time. She sees art as a way of communicating with the environment, a visual form of interaction that allows her to connect with the people who live in the vicinity of the artwork while doing it.
Making murals has also changed the way she works on canvas: “By using spray scans, you learn to make shadows in a different way and I now apply that to canvas and paper.”
The building has since been demolished.
