De in Dresden geboren Robert Matzke, beter bekend als “Rookie”, heeft een grote voorliefde vóór humor en sarcasme in zijn kunstwerken.
Oorspronkelijk opgeleid tot timmerman, timmerde hij al snel aan de weg als illustrator en street art kunstenaar. Zijn activiteiten in de filmwereld verklaren wellicht het denken in verhalende beeldtaal die resulteert in snapshotachtige scènes, die -wanneer goed bestudeerd- zijn graffiti achtergrond verraden.
Met zijn team The Weird Crew, dat humor ook hoog in het vaandel draagt, kwam dit werk tot stand; grappig en grotesk, met verwijzingen naar het popsurrealisme en gelardeerd met elementen uit de low brow kunst.
Spuitbus schudden, druk erop en “spray”, dat is zijn motto.

Originally trained as a carpenter, he soon established himself as an illustrator and street art artist. His activities in the film world perhaps explain the thinking in narrative imagery that results in snapshot-like scenes, which -when studied closely- betray his graffiti background.
With his team The Weird Crew, which also values humour, this work came about; funny and grotesque, with references to pop surrealism and larded with elements of low brow art.
