Johan Moorman is een zeer veelzijdig Nederlandse kunstenaar uit Eindhoven. Zijn werk is kleurrijk en abstract. Hij laat zich inspireren door de retro-futuristische ontwerpen van bijvoorbeeld steden en producten. Dit grote werk kwam tot stand tijdens Serious Request in 2015.
Het mijnverleden van Heerlen was hier inspiratiebron, met haar zware industrie en monotone architectuur van vooral de jaren zestig en zeventig. Het gebouw is inmiddels gesloopt, maar had vele randen en kanten, veel glas én kiezelachtige bekleding. Dat maakte het werk zeer lastig. Door dit werk kreeg het hele Van Grunsvenplein meer kleur en zeker deze wat troosteloze zijde. De kunstenaar wilde de bewoners een positief perspectief bieden met de tekst “Let The Good Times Roll”.
Johan Moorman is a highly versatile Dutch artist from Eindhoven. His work is colourful and abstract. He draws inspiration from retro-futuristic designs of cities and products, for example. This large work was created during Serious Request in 2015.
Heerlen’s mining past was the inspiration here, with its heavy industry and monotonous architecture of the 1960s and 1970s in particular. The building has since been demolished, but it had many edges and sides, a lot of glass and gravelly cladding. This made the work very difficult. This work gave the whole Van Grunsvenplein more colour, especially this somewhat dreary side. The artist wanted to offer the residents a positive perspective with the text “Let The Good Times Roll”.
