Het Aurora-project is het grootste street art-kunstwerk van Europa geworden. Het complex van 228 appartementen met 18.000 m2 muuroppervlak is in de periode juli-oktober 2021 samen met bewoners beschilderd door het Spaanse kunstenaarscollectief Boa Mistura.
Eind 2018 konden de bewoners van het complex in een tweedaagse workshop hun input voor een ontwerp geven. Begin 2019 werd gekozen voor een ontwerp dat een tekst van Kahlil Gibran weergeeft: In het Hart van elke Winter, leeft een Trillende Lente”. De zin refereert aan de geschiedenis van de plek, de geschiedenis van de stad en de geschiedenissen van de individuele bewoners.
Aurora is door de unieke samenwerking tussen bewoners, kunstenaars en instanties een sociaal kunstwerk geworden van formaat en een kunstzinnig hoogtepunt in de stad.
De wijk stond niet gunstig aangeschreven en bewoners kenden elkaar niet of nauwelijks. Dat is nu heel anders. Aurora staat symbool voor trots en waardering: van de bewoners van het complex voor zichzelf en hun wijk, en van een samenleving waar mensen meedoen, geactiveerd en gewaardeerd worden, waar het niet uitmaakt wie ze zijn, waar ze vandaan komen, wat ze doen of wat ze niet doen.
Boa Mistura
Boa Mistura is een Spaans kunstenaarscollectief met een indrukwekkende staat van dienst. Over de hele wereld hebben zij met hun kunstzinnige activiteiten bijgedragen aan transformatie van steden en samenlevingen.
Het collectief bestaat uit een multidisciplinair team met roots in de graffitikunst, dat in 2001 ontstond. Ze werken hoofdzakelijk in en voor de publieke ruimte. Ze zien hun manier van werken als een instrument om steden en samenlevingen te veranderen en verbinding tussen mensen tot stand te laten komen. Ze voelen een verantwoordelijkheid jegens de stad als leefomgeving en de tijd waarin we leven.

The Aurora project has become the largest street art work in Europe. The complex of 228 apartments with 18,000 m2 of wall surface was painted together with residents by the Spanish artist collective Boa Mistura during the period July-October 2021.
In late 2018, residents of the complex were able to give their input for a design in a two-day workshop. In early 2019, a design that echoes a text by Kahlil Gibran was chosen: In the Heart of every Winter, Lives a Vibrating Spring.” The phrase refers to the history of the place, the history of the city and the histories of its individual residents.
Aurora, through the unique collaboration between residents, artists and agencies, has become a social work of art of stature and an artistic highlight in the city.
The neighborhood was not well regarded and residents hardly knew each other. This is now very different. Aurora is a symbol of pride and appreciation: of the residents of the complex for themselves and their neighborhood, and of a society where people participate, are activated and are appreciated, where it does not matter who they are, where they come from, what they do or what they do not do.

Boa Mistura is a Spanish artist collective with an impressive track record. Around the world, they have contributed to transformation of cities and societies through their artistic activities.
The collective consists of a multidisciplinary team with roots in graffiti art, formed in 2001. They work mainly in and for public space. They see their way of working as an instrument to transform cities and societies and to create connection between people.They feel a responsibility towards the city as a living environment and the time we live in.
